PPE 3 Syllabus
Course description
Designed to assist athletic trainers and physical education and recreation majors in the care and prevention of athletic injuries.
Materials fee of $10.00 payable at registration
Course objectives
There are 18 online exams corresponding to the 18 chapters of the book located on the sports medicine web site. From your home computer, or the saddleback college library you can access the web site at: http://www.saddleback.cc.ca.us/div/pe/sportsmed Click on curriculum, click on online exams located under the PPE 3 Course description.
A well-defined paper is required for an "A" grade in this class. This should be 3 to 5 pages, typed 1 ½ space, no more than 12 font with three sources from the Internet, a book and a periodical. The paper should be on an injury including; the anatomy of the injury, the mechanics of the injury, the treatment or surgery options, the rehabilitation and the protocols to return to intercollegiate competition.
A school search is required. You should visit the Internet or phone and request materials be mailed to you. This school should be your preferred school of choice. You should detail; the requirements to attend, the application process, coursework required to be fulfilled prior to attending, curriculum of degree program required to graduate, GPA required, special testing prior to attending and any post-graduate testing.
Attendance will be credited with 3 points per day. More than five absences lowers grade by a letter. Attendance and participation is a large requirement of this class.
There will be a lab final which includes the proper taping of an ankle and arches. A second type of taping will be randomly selected and must be performed.
Training room hours required observing two hours per week in the athletic training room. (total of 20 hours) from 12:00 to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Sign up with the trainer.
Article Critiques are required by using the Internet, Library, etc, and finding five articles from the sports medicine industry and writing a one-page critique on the information presented.
